Women's Center

The Women's Center at Saint John Hospital wins high praise from our patients. Our patients rate us in the highest percentile for the quality of our maternal care. Whether you're having a baby or need gynecological care, the center provides exceptional medical care in an environment that is medically advanced, comfortable and safe.

Our medical staff includes board-certified physicians specializing in obstetrics/gynecology, pediatrics and family practice. Our nursing staff has years of experience in obstetrical and neonatal care and maintains the highest level of competency available.

What to Expect at Our Maternity Center

Here's what you'll find:

  • You remain in one room for your entire stay. Our fully-equipped rooms allow you to go through labor, delivery and recovery in one place. Your baby can stay with you as much as you wish. Each room is equipped with special lighting and mirrors so you can see your baby being born.
  • Your baby is monitored throughout birth. A centralized fetal monitoring system lets nurses track uterine contractions, fetal heart rate and fetal oxygenation during labor and delivery.
  • 24-hour pain management. This is available if you request an epidural block.
  • High-tech security keeps you and your baby safe. Our I-Den-Tix scan system enables staff to continually monitor arrivals and departures. A staff member or volunteer must release the door for visitors to arrive or depart. We also put matching identification bracelets on you, your infant and the child's father or your significant other at the time of your child's birth.
  • Tests during pregnancy monitor your baby's health and spot problems early. The Women's Center is equipped to provide all necessary prenatal testing, such as non-stress tests, biophysical profiles and contraction stress testing.
  • Education and support gives you a head start on parenting, Saint John offers parents comprehensive education and support that begins with classes on labor and delivery and continues with special assistance in caring for your newborn. For example, a certified lactation counselor is on staff for breastfeeding support.

Gynecological Services

The center provides women with full diagnostic and treatment options for their very personal health concerns. Our unit gives expert medical care and pre-operative and post-operative support following select surgical procedures.

  • Telephone Follow-up Care
  • Women's Center nurses contact patients after they arrive at home to answer any questions they may have and to give advice to new parents.
  • Educational Programs
  • The center offers a host of helpful educational opportunities for women and their families with topics like prenatal are, breast-feeding, infant massage and sibling preparation.
