Leavenworth has a small town, historic atmosphere with easy access to metropolitan Kansas City. In the rolling hills of northeast Kansas, Leavenworth and nearby Lansing offer residents the best of small town living, along with a vintage homes, a historic shopping area and quality schools.

Founded in 1854, Leavenworth acted as support for Fort Leavenworth. It quickly became a station for settlers heading West. It was home to freight companies, meat packers, provisioners, stove makers and furniture manufacturers. The city has dedicated a historic wayside tour to showcase the notable events and locations in the area.

Fort Leavenworth, founded in 1927, is the oldest fort west of the Mississippi River in continuous service. It's also one of the most beautiful and well-maintained forts in the United States. A multitude of historical sites ― the Buffalo Soldier Monument, Frontier Army Museum, Santa Fe and Oregon Trail cuts and the National Cemetery ― are open daily to the public.

There are a variety of shopping options in the Leavenworth area. They range from the historic downtown Leavenworth along the riverfront with its locally-owned businesses, to the climate-controlled, indoor plaza.

Leavenworth/Lansing is 20 minutes from the Kansas City metropolitan area, a dynamic Midwestern location with major league sports, such as the Kansas City T-Bones, a NASCAR racetrack, world-class shopping, cultural activities, theatre, ballet, symphony, museums, and riverboat casinos and an outdoor amphitheatres featuring big name performers.
