Saint John Physician Receives Board Certification

May 5, 2008

The American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM) and Saint John Hospital in Leavenworth, Kan. are pleased to announce that Stephanie Suber, D.O. has successfully completed her Certification Examination in Family Practice Medicine. Dr. Suber joined Saint John’s Medical Staff in September 2007.

Board certification shows that a physician has met a standard of excellence in knowledge and practice, through the examination process. It also demonstrates expertise in medical skills during the seven-year cycle between examinations.

“We are proud that Dr. Suber has completed the difficult process of receiving board certification,” says Greg Madsen, Saint John Administrator. “Her dedication to meeting the high standards set by the American Board of Family Medicine is apparent in the great care she gives to her patients.”

The ABFM, one of 24 member Boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties, is the second largest medical specialty board in the United States. Founded in 1969, it is a voluntary, not-for-profit, private organization. The ABFM is dedicated to improving the quality of medical care available to the public, establishing and maintaining standards of excellence in the specialty of Family Medicine, improving the standards of medical education for training in Family Medicine and determining the qualifications of Family Medicine specialists who apply for and hold certificates.

To achieve certification by the ABFM, Dr. Suber successfully completed a 3-year accredited Family Medicine residency program. She also holds a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in the United States and successfully completed a one day,
written examination of cognitive knowledge and problem-solving abilities. This examination covered the disciplines of Family Medicine including: adult medicine; care of newborns, infants, children and adolescents; maternity and gynecological care; community medicine; care of the older patient; human behavior and mental health and care of the surgical patient.

Dr. Suber is in practice with Richard Whitlow, M.D. Their office is located Eisenhower Medical Plaza, 1004 Progress Drive, Suite 220 in Lansing, Kan. She can be reached at 913-772-8200. Additional information regarding the ABFM can be found at www.theabfm.org.
