Interventional Radiology

One of the most rapidly growing areas of medicine is interventional radiology, which uses the latest imaging techniques to locate and treat medical problems with minimally invasive procedures.

Interventional radiologists at Providence Medical Center use small catheters (tubes) or other devices, which they guide by X-ray, ultrasound, or computed axial tomography (CAT) imaging to the affected areas.

These procedures are usually less traumatic for patients than conventional surgery. They involve minimal pain, shorter (or no) hospital stays, allow faster recovery and often cost less than invasive surgery.

For more information, please visit the website for The Society of Interventional Radiology at www.sirweb.org . From the homepage select Interventional Radiology or Patients. Patient’s and their families will find this page to be an excellent resource tool regarding the various treatments within Interventional Radiology.

Interventional Radiology department is located on the first floor of Providence Medical Center. For more information, call 913-596-4123.
